Criminal Promises is the first book I ever wrote and for that reason alone it holds a special place in my heart. I’ve rewritten and changed this story several times over the years, but finally I think it is ready for the public. To make sure, I have been through a few rounds of editing with an editor. The most fun though has been the cover. Even that isn’t fully predictable.
It was awesome to have Scott Nova do a custom photo shoot for me, but more awesome is how close Scott is to how I view the hero of my book – as a cover model and as a man. Both my hero and Scott are smart, charming and funny men. They both are interested in helping other people. And they are both men who are great with kids. For me, there is just something downright sexy about a man who’s great with kids.
Those were the main characteristics I seem to have in every hereo I write. That was certainly the case when I was writing Criminal Promises. As a widow and single mother, Maggie needed a man who not only was good with children, but she needed one who could accept her own as his. He also needed to be able to relate to a troubled young boy who couldn’t let go of his grief. Detective Harte has these characteristics, even if he doesn’t want to embrace them.
I hope you read the book. I especially hope you love BD and Maggie as much as I enjoyed writing them.
